DIY Ripped Jeans
Ripped jeans is not a new trend, people want them so much! They are so fashion-forward and celebrities like Selena Gomez, Rihanna, and Gigi Hadid are wearing them non-stop on runways, and red carpets. Holes are almost everywhere so knowing how to make them can definitely come in handy. Jeans like these cost a lot in certain stores, so why not have little DIY action! It's cute, simple, and you'll never want to stop making them!

1. Choosing your denim
Choosing your denim is the first thing to do because the thicker the fabric, the longer time it would take. Tight, Skinny, or boyfriend style. Black, white, or blue. It's all on you. I recommend using a pair of jeans that aren't very expensive like you wouldn't want to put rips or holes in a $200 pair of jeans. Instead, using jeans from goodwill or somewhere similar would work much better. A really good tip is washing your jeans a few times and adding bleach about one of those times, so they would have more of a natural look.
2. Gathering your supplies
You will need sandpaper or a sandstone, a cardboard, scissors or an x-acto knife, tweezers, and chalk. These tools will make your DIY very simple and your rips so authentic and natural. A ruler would also be helpful if you want to be really precise on where you want your holes to be.
3. Marking your jeans
With the chalk, and your ruler (if you have one), you want to mark where you want your holes to be by making lines on the denim. You can go horizontally or vertically, depending on how you want your rips to look. This is best to do when you are wearing your jeans so you don't mark your jeans in a completely different area.
4. Start distressing
For this step, you will need your sandstone. You want to lay your jeans flat to scratch the jean area you marked until the fabric becomes lighter and thin enough for you to cut. Once you see, the fabric is thin enough, you can move on to the next step.
5. Start making the holes and add touchups!
The first thing you want to do is put the piece of cardboard inside your jeans so you don't cut a hole through the back-unless you want too then you can skip the cardboard. Next, grab your scissors and using the edge of the metal, start scarping your lines in the chosen direction until you start seeing thread lines. Once you see the threads, grab some tweezers, and start pulling frays from the thread and around the edge of the holes. If you are looking for a full skin hole, grab your scissors and just cut the threads completely, but don't forget about fraying the ends so they still look genuine. To finish off your DIY, grab the sandstone again and start scratching the pockets, the side of the jeans and the ankle areas, including the folded fabric if you plan on folding your jeans for the ideal store-bought look.
There you go, some do-it-yourself ripped jeans!
This idea was inspired by my publicist, Izzy. She is always complaining about how she has so many plain jeans and that she wants to add some rips in them, but doesn't know how. Hopefully, this DIY will have her and you all enjoying the outcome of your newly made jeans. XOXO!
