Flashing Back to the World Series!

The World Series. This annual championship is between the major league baseball team's in North America. 2 teams make it to this series and play seven games. This year of 2017, my hometown's team, the Houston Astros and the LA Dodgers were in the fight against each other through those seven games. Back and forth- the Dodgers won and the Astros won. No one really knew what to expect throughout this series. On Wednesday, November 1st, the Houston Astros won their first championship in this thrilling series with a score of 5 to 1 in game 7!

The winning of the Houston Astros led many Houstonians to celebrate like they've never done before. This champion team made it to their first world series in 2005 against the Red Sox but they lost after 4 games. Now they came back for one sweep that definitely made a change in Houston history. They had a game plan and they fought for what they wanted. Friday, November 3rd, we were able to see the victory parade that was held in downtown, Houston honoring the players. Floats, confetti, jets dropping blue and orange jerseys, posters plastered on high buildings reading "go Astros" were just a few of the amazing things that brought this parade to City Hall even more joyful. It was sure a big celebration! Students were excused from school, and employees got the day off for this huge event. Celebrities including Travis Scott also came into the city to cheer on this victorious team. Although he wasn't just in the crowd, the famous rapper also made an appearance on a firetruck alongside a few of the Astros players. Surprisingly, many journalists made the prediction of the Astro's win this year way back in 2014. It's shocking how one simple but specific guess can become so true. The Houston mayor, Sylvester Turner believes that this win brought back the life of our city after Hurricane Harvey. He believes that "It's not just any World Series for us, it's the World Series after Hurricane Harvey," "It epitomizes our rebuilding, our recovering, and it's about the spirit of the city. It's not just about the game, or the players on the field. Every time the Astros go on the field, 2.3 million Houstonians are right there with them in spirit on the field." Mayor Turner was the proudest with this sweep that he made November 3rd Astro's day because it will always be remembered!

After 55 years of it's existence, being in the world series only once before this year, and playing right after a tragic and horrible hurricane, we, Houstonians were proud to announce that our major league baseball team is the winner of the 2017 world series and not only are we happy, but I'm sure the team is as proud to represent this city as well. GO ASTROS!
